Best Beauty & Style Books // AliceOlivia

Best Beauty & Style Books // AliceOlivia

Gok Won Work Your Wardrobe
A fun and sassy look at fashion from the Queen Gok himself. I recommend this for those of all ages; he discusses in depth different cuts of jeans, blazers to suit which body type etc, and really teaches how to dress for your body. While some of the outfits are not my style, this book is very useful, and reflects Gok's cheerful personality.

Lauren Conrad Beauty
A must have for all makeup lovers, or those who want to learn more about the art of makeup application. She also discusses other aspects such as skin care and hair care, and lists certain ingredients to avoid when shopping for products. This one is my makeup bible as I learnt a large portion of my makeup skills from here, and makes the perfect gift.

Lauren Conrad Style
Another fantastic book by Lauren, this one's about fashion. She discusses every thing from her key pieces, travelling essentials and go-to lists for any holiday occasion, work/ school appropriate outfits, and her makeup tips (though Lauren Conrad Beauty is far more in depth). I love Lauren's effortless, classic style, and this one makes for another fantastic gift to any fashion loving friend.

#GIRLBOSS
A quirky and insightful look at Sophia Amoruso, Nasty Gal founder and CEO, journey to becoming a enormously successful business woman in the fashion retail industry. She gives worthwhile tips and words of wisdom surrounding becoming your own "Girl Boss" in business.

ASOS Beauty Haul

ASOS Beauty Haul

Hi all! I hope you are having a fantastic week so far. Another haul, which is great for all of you, however not so great for my bank balance. In saying that, I will still share with you all what arrived in the mail and justify my purchases as restocking of products that I love, with a few little extra bits and pieces here and there :)

If you have been living under a rock, ASOS is essentially a very popular online shopping website that stocks multiple brands for both men and women, and sells all things from designer shoes, inexpensive clothes, bags, and they have a fantastic selection of makeup as well.

I've come to the realization that makeup is generally cheaper via the Internet, and ASOS  is fantastic as it sells brands that may not be sold where I live, or brands that are sold where I live (such as Rimmel) however at UK prices (so they are much, much cheaper than popping into your local Farmers store and buying a $30 foundation that should really be $15.) And what's even better, ASOS has free international shipping and usually takes less than a week to deliver, so there are no month long waiting sessions.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder (a repurchase)
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (another repurchase)
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation
Rimmel Scandel Eyes Shadow Paint

I will report back once I've tried the products a little more, however after swatches, I can say that both the foundation and liquid eye shadow look very promising.

If you have an Instagram, please do follow me as its a fantastic way to stay updated on new blog posts. If you have a blog of your own make sure to let me know in the comments and I will be sure to check it out!

Hi all! I hope you are having a fantastic week. Some of you may already know that I was fortunate to be a part of Creme Magazine. I emailed a while ago about my blog, expecting nothing out of it; however I was fortunate enough to be asked to take part in a reader beauty shoot. The article was focused on embracing a unique feature about yourself - I loved how they used readers instead of models in the shoot. I was contemplating whether or not to do a blog post on it, but I thought you might be interested in seeing some of the pics if you are unable to get your hands on the magazine.

Thank you to Creme for the fantastic opportunity; it was a privilege to be a part of such a fantastic magazine. Unfortunately this is the last issue of Creme Magazine, which is very sad for the staffers (whom I got to know - they were so lovely) and the readers including myself. I stared reading Creme in 2011, and has always been a fantastic, fun, and girly magazine that had reliable, well thought content.

On another note, I'm close to hitting 500 followers on Bloglovin - which is amazing! I would love it for you to follow me, it's a fantastic way to keep updated on new posts. It's super simple to create an account, and I would really appreciate your support by following. In saying that, if you would prefer to follow me on Instagram please do so; I post often and its also a great way to stay up to date.

Hi lovelies! I hope you are having a fantastic week! Today I'm going to share with you my Travel Makeup Essentials. I do my makeup on the plane, as flying can dehydrate your skin, and I like to do a little pamper routine on the plane (moisturizing is key) - then apply my makeup towards the end of the flight. These are the few things I bring in my carry on, just to make myself a little presentable :). I have already done a "whats in my travel makeup bag", where I show you all of the makeup I'm bringing with me. Enjoy!

Makeup products:

  • Elf Shine Eraser blotting sheets
  • Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder - shade transparent
  • Rimmel Extra Super Lash mascara
  • Elf brow gel
  • Elf Eyebrow kit

My New Favorite Lipstick

My New Favorite Lipstick

Follow me on Bloglovin: http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11555387

Hi lovelies! I hope you have all had a fantastic week. Today's blog post is all about my new but strong addiction in life: this lipstick.

Believe it or not, this is my first ever "nude lipstick" (usually go for more balmy lip products like lip butters, baby lips, and chubby sticks), so wanted to do my research and find a good one. I had heard so much about the Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks, so I thought should give one a try. Tanya Burr uses this particular color and loves it, and she has the same coloring as me (Mac NW20 - for reference), so thought "why not give it a try".

Of  went to the computer, and bought this baby on BeautyJoint. And I do have to admit, have never fallen so in love with a lipstick as what I have with this.
Today am going to share my opinion about this life-saving lipstick, plus provide swatches and photos, as for some reason always struggle to find good makeup swatches true to color.

The formula is super creamy and very moisturizing, and lasts a reasonable amount of time on the lips. It gives a nice glossy sheen to the lips, plus this color does not highlight any dry skin. The color is more of a peachy nude than a pink nude, and is just slightly lighter than my natural lip color- only slightly. However it still looks completely natural - just like your lips but better a color, as some would describe it.

The packaging is extremely sturdy, and is a glossy vibrant purple. I also love how the lipstick winds all the way down - there is nothing more annoying than having to be super cautious lifting a lipstick lip and then crushing the top of it. Nothing. More. Annoying. I'm pretty sure they have repackaged some of their lipsticks, however I'm sure the packaging will not be any worse.

Swatches on

So as you can see, I absolutely love this lipstick. The formula is fantastic, the color is beautiful, the packaging is sturdy... I could honestly go on about this lipstick however I will not bore you :).

I hope you enjoyed todays blog post, let me know what you would like me to blog about next in the comments, I love all of your recommendations! Also, please let me know what your favorite drugstore lip product is, I would love to know!

Love you all!

Beauty Unboxing Haul (NYX, WetnWild, Elf, Bourjois)

Beauty Unboxing Haul - NYX, Wetnwild, Elf, Bourjois

Follow me on Bloglovin: http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11555387/aliceolivia

Hi all! I hope you are having a fantastic day. Recently I have given in to online shopping and bought some things... oh well. I purchased off asos and the shipping arrived very quickly, which was fantastic. I also bought of a website called Beauty Joint.

I had never tried any of these brands below before, so I was super exited to try all of these products out!

From asos I purchased the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder. I was so exited to buy this, as I have struggled to find a non orange bronzing powder for a very long time. The packaging is like a cardboard book, and inside the product is shaped like 4 squares of chocolate. The consistency is very smooth and the product is reasonably matte.

From Beauty Joint, I purchased 3 of the NYX butter glosses, as I heard they were creamy, pigmented and non sticky. I was intrigued to see if it would live up to my expectation, and I can now say that they are one of my favorite lip gloss formulas I've ever tried.

The colors are absolutely beautiful, and the texture is extremely creamy and smooth. The color pay off is fantastic as well, and they are easy to layer or sheer out.

Eclair (a beautiful pastel pink, with purple undertones), tiramisu (a beige nude - my favorite color out of the three), peaches and cream (a bright, coral pink color).

Swatches left to right: eclair, tiramisu, peaches and cream

I also bought 2 Wetnwild lip sticks, mainly because they were extremely affordable and there where some dupes to some mac lipsticks. Unfortunately I was not as impressed with these as I was with the butter glosses, mainly because the packaging was very cheap and the lipstick could break in half. In saying that however, the product is quite matte, and the opacity is fantastic although they are slightly drying.

Pinkerbell, 24 carrot gold (a dupe for Macs morange)

I love wearing pinkerbell under the NYX peaches and cream gloss, and the 24 carrot gold is really beautiful when you blend it out with an orange balm (I used Clinique chubby stick in oversized orange).

The last thing I bought was the elf Eyebrow Kit in medium. I had heard many positive things about this product, and I absolutely love it. One side is a darker, brown gel, the other more of a lighter beige brown powder.

There you go! I hope you enjoyed this blog post, If you want to see more hauls let me know. Make sure to comment down below what you think I should try out next, and leave any blog post requests down below. Also if you have a blog of your own, let me know and I will check you out! Love you all!

January Favorites

Today's blog post is all about what I have been loving beauty wise in the month of January.

I hope you have had a fantastic January and start to the New Year! One of my highlights has to be creating this blog. Thank you to everyone who has supported me this month by commenting and following me, I  appreciate it so much! If you haven't followed me on bloglovin yet, here is the link: http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11555387/aliceolivia

So, here are my January beauty and makeup favorites - let's hop in!

I had been using my pink loofah, and absolutely loving it. It exfoliates the skin and lathers your shower gel or soap up, just making the whole shower experience so much nicer. If you haven't got one already, pop into your local drugstore/pharmacy and pick one up!

After showering, I have been loving applying my Moringa Milk Body Lotion by the Body Shop, it smells heavenly, and is nicer than a body butter in the warmer months because its less thick and heavy.

My saving grace however has been my Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment, this little red tube caters to multiple skin issues, but I  love applying a generous amount to my lips at night time, and in the morning they are so soft its unbelievable.
I don't wear foundation on a daily basis, but when I am going out or just feel like I need a little more coverage, Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation has been fantastic. It claims to have an anti-fatigue affect on the skin, and because of the small shimmery particles, it really does "wake you up" (hence the name).

I have also been loving my Revlon Color Stay Pressed Powder, which I have used so much and have taken it to so many places that it has cracked :(  Never the less, I still love it.

I have also been religiously using my Maybelline The Falsies Mascara, it lengthens my lashes while giving them volume, but doesn't give me spider eyes.

For lips, all I have really been wearing this month is tinted lip balm, and this one by Maybelline is fantastic. It is called Baby Lips, and the color is  berry crush, a beautiful red.

I have also been loving my blusher in bashful plum by Cliniqe, and my Urban Decay Naked Palette has really been the only eye shadows I have been using this month.
For hair I have been using my Schwarzkopf Ultimate Keratin Mousse. scrunch it into my hair while it's damp, just to give some more texture and structure to my curls. It claims to give visibly fuller hair, and it succeeds.

I have also been using my Tangle Teaser for brushing my hair out; this brush is absolutely fantastic and will get rid of any tangles. I don't think I will ever be able to go back to a regular brush for sorting out tangles, because this one is just so good!

There you go! I hope you enjoyed this post, I love looking back on the past month and writing about my favorite products. Let me know what your favorite products for this month are, I would be really interested to know, leave any question and future blog post request also, and if you have a blog of your own, let me know and I will check it out!
